Bhubaneswar: In a bid to thwart any possible untoward incident, Odisha police has decided to deploy 140 platoons of police force in and around Puri during annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings for which lakhs of devotees are expected to descend on the streets.
At a preparatory meeting chaired by DGP RP Sharma, it was decided that 1000 police officers will be engaged to supervise the security measures. 2000 home guards, two units of STF and RPF and one unit of NDRF and ODRF will also be roped in service.
The town will also remain under CCTV surveillance. The CCTVs will be installed at strategic points in the town, which will be monitored by an IG rank officer.
Road from Pipili to Puri will cordoned off. The air and marine surveillance will also be put in place, DGP said.
