Keonjhar: In yet another utter display of superstitious and inhuman behaviour, a 15-day-old girl was branded with a hot iron by her grandmother as a ‘cure’ to stomach related ailment at Kanjipani village under Bansapal block in Keonjhar district.
The infant has been admitted to district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. The grandmother of the infant influenced by her neighbours branded the baby who was suffering from common cold and stomach ache.
The baby is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Her condition is stable, doctors said. She suffered burns on her belly. The practice of branding children with hot metal objects such an iron rod or bangles to cure ailments is widely practised in many remote areas of Odisha.
