5 CESU officials booked for elephant electrocution in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A day after the death of seven elephants due to electrocution, Forest Department today lodged complaint against five CESU officials at Kantabania  Police Station in connection with the incident.

ACCF Jitendra Dash filed the FIR against executive superintending engineer of Dhenkanal circle Naresh Patnaik, executive engineer Nihar Panigrahi, Assistant engineer Artatrana Nayak, engineer Sanjay Mohanty, Lineman Firoj Panda under Wildlife protection act (1972).

Meanwhile, Crime Branch team reached the spot and started investigation after receiving the case from Kantabania police station.

Six officials of CESU were placed under suspension while one was dismissed from service yesterday in this connection.

A herd-of seven elephants were electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire laid for the construction of railway tracks near Kamalanga village under Sadar range in Dhenkanal district.
