Bhubaneswar: Journalist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra accused of outraging religious and cultural sentiments of Odia people was arrested by Commissionerate police in connection with the case registered at Saheed Nagar police Station here for giving anti-Odisha remarks.
The arrest was made after hour-long interrogation in an undisclosed location today. Police are likely to produce him in court today after medical examination. He is likely to be quizzed by Puri police in connection with cases registered at Konark police station and Arakhakuda police station in Puri. The investigating officials of both the police stations earlier reached the State Capital in the morning and had a meeting DGP RP Sharma.
Earlier in the day, Iyer appeared before the Assembly Committee which issued him a fresh summon to appear before the panel on November 2 with an affidavit.
During his interrogation, he begged apology for such ‘stupidity’. He admitted all his mistakes during interrogation, Mishra added.
He had also apologized earlier twice through e-mail and media and promised to cooperate with the investigating agency.
Iyer was accused of outraging cultural sentiments of Odia people by giving derogatory remark against Konark sun temple, Puri temple and Odisha legislators.
Iyer was earlier arrested in New Delhi and also produced before the Saket Court there where he was granted bail.
