Sambalpur: Senior BJP leader and former Minister Jayanarayan Mishra was taken into preventive custody from his residence in Nandapada area ahead of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Sambalpur.
A large number of BJP workers were also detained by the police for the smooth visit of the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to attend the Youth Conclave of Biju Yuva Vahini in Sambalpur today besides launching several welfare projects in the district. Around 25 platoons of police have been deployed for the CM’s visit.
As per schedule, after reaching Sambalpur, the Chief Minister will first visit the Nelson Mandela Square to inaugurate the newly-constructed high-level bridge over the Mahanadi. The 1.5-km-long bridge constructed at Rs 117.72 crore will provide direct communication to people of Chaunrpur, Goshala and Chipilima to Sambalpur in strengthening their socioeconomic conditions.
Besides, the Patnaik will open 19 more developmental projects worth Rs 100 crore in the district and lay foundation-stone for 14 projects, which would come up at an estimated cost of Rs 338 crore.
Later, the Chief Minister will address a huge gathering of Biju Yuva Vahini volunteers at the Veer Surendra Sai Stadium. Around 30,000 volunteers six western Odisha districts – Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul and Bargarh – will attend the proposed convention.
