Jharsuguda: Alliance Air, the regional arm of the national carrier Air India is most likely to begin its operations from newly inaugurated VSS airport at Jharsuguda to Bhubaneswar and Raipur soon. The service is likely to start from March 1.
Jharsuguda airport executive director P Karunakaran informed about the development after holding a discussion with the delegates of Alliance Air today.
A four-member team of the air carrier today reviewed the security and runways of the airport today and expressed satisfaction.
The new service is part of the government’s regional connectivity scheme UDAN-III.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan had recently announced that budget carrier SpiceJet will make its maiden entry into Odisha, connecting Jharsuguda with Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad under UDAN phase III. Similarly, Jet Airways will connect the city with financial capital Mumbai while Alliance Air and Turbo Aviation will provide connectivity to State Capital Bhubaneswar. Jharsuguda airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22 last year. However, operations stopped at the airport after 15 days as Air Odisha suspended its flight services.
