Bhubaneswar: Amid tears, anger and anti-Pakistan slogans, the last rites of two CRPF jawans, Prasanna Sahu and Manoj Kumar Behera, who were killed in a terror attack in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, were held in their native villages in Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack districts, respectively.
Thousands of people, including women, paid their last respects to Prasanna at his Parisikharpur village in Naugaon area in Jagatsinghpur district and Manoj at his native place Ratanpur in Niali area in Cuttack district.
The last rites were conducted with full State honours.
Villagers raised slogans like “Saheed Prasanna Amar Rahe, Saheed Manoj Amar Rahe” and also against Pakistan. While Prasanna is survived with wife, a daughter and a son, Manoj is survived with wife and a one-year-old daughter.
While Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and State Health and Family Welfare and Law Minister Pratap Jena represented the Central and State Governments, respectively at the cremation of Manoj at his village, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and State Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera represented the respective Governments at the Prasanna’s last rites.
The jawans’ body, draped in tricolour, was brought in two CRPF vehicles to their native villages from the Biju Patnaik International Airport. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Ministers Pradhan and Oram, Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma and leaders cutting across party lines paid their rich tributes to the martyred jawans at the airport.
Forty CRPF personnel were killed and five injured in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir after a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying explosives into the bus carrying the jawans.
