Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha-cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi, who recently joined BJP at the residence of party national president Amit Shah in New Delhi, was received a warm welcome at the State party headquarters here. Sarangi opted for voluntary retirement from service recently.
Aparajita Sarangi landed in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, two days after formally joining the BJP in New Delhi and visited Maa Mangala Temple at Kakatpur and Jagannath Temple in Puri, Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar and sought blessings of the deities for the new journey.
Today the former bureaucrat was accorded a rousing welcome at the party office in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state party president Basanta Panda, his deputy Sameer Mohanty, MLA KV Singh Deo. A large number of party workers welcomed her.
In her address, Sarangi said that she joined the party keeping the people’s welfare in mind.
“I have joined politics and BJP with an open mind. I will work for the development of the State of Odisha keeping the people’s welfare in mind,” said the former bureaucrat.
Speculation is rife about the former IAS officer contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Bhubaneswar. During her tenure as Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Commissioner from 2006 to 2009, she had made a mark by pioneering the concept of vending zones for street vendors and personally supervising the cleaning of the city, besides undertaking beautification drive.
Aparajita, who last worked as the Joint Secretary of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on Central deputation, said that she was impressed by the work style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his determination for development.
The former IAS officer also thanked Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for working for the development of the State.
Aparajita had sacrificed 12 years of IAS service to join BJP.
