Koraput: An Army Engineering Team from Ranchi on Wednesday arrived at in Koraput and visited the site near Bariput where two earthmover drivers had been trapped under the heap of boulders since May 31 at a stone quarry.
The team took stock of the situation in presence of District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy and senior district officials.
The Koraupt district administration on Tuesday had sought the help of army to assist in the rescue operation after the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and the National Disaster Response Force teams failed to rescue the trapped duo – Ghanashyam Guru and Sanjay Das.
Accordingly a team of army officials belonging to their engineering battalion stationed at Ranchi in Jharkhand was dispatched to take stock of the situation.
Though more than 150 personnel, including technicians, belonging to various agencies were pressed into the rescue operation, but still there is no headway in the operation as it is difficult to shift the huge boulders.
The accident took place on 6 pm on May 31, when the two drivers were removing boulders from the quarry.
The stones extracted from the quarry were used at the Telangiri irrigation project.
