Assembly adjourned till tomorrow amid ruckus over BJP leader’s arrest

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till tomorrow amid ruckus created by the BJP members over the arrest of saffron party leader Jay Narayan Mishra in connection with a firing incident at Sohela in Bargarh in which a BJD worker had died in Bargarh district.

Today the house proceedings have been marred by pandemonium created by the opposition BJP legislators.

As soon the House assembled at 10.30 am to transact the business, BJP members trouped into the well of the House and shouted slogans against the BJD Government for the arrest of Jay Narayan Mishra.

Speaker Pradip Amat first adjourned the House till 11.30 am. When the House reassembled at 11.30 the saffron party MLAs again created din forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 12.10 pm. Later the House met again at 12.10 pm and adjourned till 3 pm as the situation did not improve.

When the House met at 3 pm, the same ruckus prevailed in the House forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 10.30 am till Thursday.

Jay Narayan Mishra was arrested by Sohela police of Bargarh district on March 13 in connection with the connection with a firing incident at Sohela in which a BJD worker had died in Bargarh district.

The incident took place in the wee hours of February 23 on the eve of the by-election in the Bijepur Assembly constituency February 24.

Labour Minister Susanta Singh’s brother Subrat Singh and three others were injured in the attack by a group of men in Banabira area. The attackers also fired at the vehicle and smashed its windshield with stones. One of the four persons injured in the attack identified as Dileswar Sahu the driver of the vehicle of Subrat Singh, later died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
