BJD holds protest against petrol and diesel price rise

Bhubaneswar: Protesting the skyrocketing prices of today took to the streets in Bhubaneswar and staged demonstration at various places including Raj Bhawan square in the Capital city.

BJD leaders and party activists including members of women wing, students’ wing and youth wings of the party staged a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan to protest the soaring fuel price. Later, a delegation of the party submitted a memorandum to the President through the Governor.

Earlier, the party had also held similar demonstrations and meetings in all the 314 blocks of the State. BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said the unrelenting fuel price hike has hit all sections of the society. The poor and the middle class people are the worst affected, he added.

BJD Youth wing president Sanjay Dasburma said that there is no reason for increasing the prices of petrol and diesel when the international crude oil prices are cheaper, he added.

“Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tried to escape by passing the buck on international market and State government. He has utterly failed to control the soaring prices of the fuel,” he added.

Lashing out at the Centre for protecting the interest of the oil marketing companies at the cost of the people, he warned to intensify the agitation in village level.
