BJD to protest petrol, diesel price hike in front of filling stations

Bhubaneswar: Holding Centre’s faulty policies responsible for rising price of diesel and petrol, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to stage protest in front of all filling stations across the State in phased manner from September 7 to 9.

Supporters of BJD’s women, youth and students wing will stage demonstration in front of the petrol pump from 10 am to 12 noon. The party leaders informed at a press meet that price of petrol and diesel hit a record time high due to faulty policies of Centre. The Centre has done this in order to give benefit to rich and industrialists. The curruption behind it has come to fore. Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is responsible for price hike,” BJD general secretary Sanjay Dasburma said.

On the other hand, BJP countered that State government should immediately slash the VAT of fuel so that the price of diesel and petrol will come down.

The already high fuel prices continued to surge for 10th straight day. Diesel prices went up by nearly 20 paise and petrol prices have gone up by 16 paise. After the hike on Tuesday, the total increase in petrol prices is around Rs 2.50 per litre, while for diesel it has crossed Rs 3 per litre in last one month.
