Dhenkanal/Bargarh: Continuing its winning streak, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today emerged victorious in the elections to both Hindol and Atabira Notified Area Councils in Dhenkanal and Bargarh districts, respectively. The regional party made a clean sweep in 12-ward Atabira and grabbed a majority of 13 wards out of 16 in Hindol NAC.
The BJP managed to acquire only one seat while two other wards went to the pockets of Independent candidates in Hindol. Congress failed to open account in both the NACs.
The counting of votes had started in the morning today. Voting for the two NACs was held on April 3.
Altogether, 38 candidates were in the fray in Atabira with three major political parties – BJD, BJP and Congress – fielding candidates in all the 12 Wards. There Independents were also contesting the poll.
Similarly, as many as 55 candidates were contesting in the poll in Hindol.
