Bargarh: Two BJP leaders including State general secretary Ranjan Patel and Yuva Morcha secretary Irashish Acharya were attacked murderously near Court square at Sohela in Bargarh district today.
They have been admitted to district headquarters hospital in critical condition. The incident took place when both the leaders were going to Sohela jail to meet former minister and senior party leaders Jayanarayan Mishra, who has been lodged in jail after being arrested in connection with the attack on minister Sushant Singh’s brother during Bijepur by-election in which a man was killed.
Police have reached the spot and started investigation.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Rabi Naik accused Minister Sushant Singh of masterminding the assault. “The attack was pre-planned and executed at the behest of Minister Sushant Singh. Our leaders were attacked murderously when they were on way to the jail to meet Jayanaran Mishra. Both of our leaders sustained grievous injuries. Irashish has seven stitches on face only”, Naik alleged.
The Kuchinda legislator who staged a sit-in inside the Assembly today protesting the attack further alleged that hooliganism of BJD leaders has gone up to a higher level now-a-days.
On the other hand, Minister Sushant Singh rubbished the allegation. “The charges levelled against me are false and baseless. I have no involvement in the incident. This is not an one-sided attack, but a brawl from both the sides. They first attacked our workers following which our people only defended. The law will take its own course” Singh said.
“The BJP has been spreading a reign of terror for the last few days in Sohela. They have been continuously threatening to kill another party member,” he added.
The minister further alleged that the BJP men are regularly meeting Jayanarayan at jail with special dishes. They also tried to install an air conditioner in Jayanaran’s jail chamber, he said.
