BJP targets Odisha govt over State’s own food security scheme

Bhubaneswar: The State government’s own food security scheme is not meant for poor and distressed section, but for political interest, alleged BJP State vice president Sameer Mohanty today.

At a press meet, Mohanty said it is clear from the letter of food commission chairman Rangalal Jamuda that 7091 illegible beneficiaries in blocks under 119 tribal sub-plan areas are not included in the scheme.

The letter which was sent to Food department on August 8 stated that 15822 applications are pending in BDO offices in respective blocks of the sub-plan areas. The number of application is likely to increase, Mohanty said quoting the letter.

If the State issues required guidelines, poor people who have been left out under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), would get the benefit, Mohanty said.

Jamuda has also raised many sensitive issues in the letter. The BJP leader alleged that CM Naveen Patnaik is trying to cheat people by launching such scheme for political mileage.

If People born after 2011 are still poor and deprived of food security, what type of hard labour the CM is doing to eliminate poverty, asks Mohanty.
