Budget session of Odisha Assembly ends abruptly

Bhubaneswar: The Assembly was adjourned sine die today, four days ahead of the schedule. A motion in this regard was moved by Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy.

As many as eight bills were passed during the Budget Session which was held in two phases while debate on five adjournment motions moves by the Opposition was held.

Today, the Assembly passed Odisha Legislative Assembly Speakers’ Salary and Allowances (Amendment) Bill-2018, Odisha Ministers’ Salary and Allowances (Amendment) Bill-2018, Odisha Assembly passes Odisha Official Language (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments (Amendment) Bill-2018.

The ongoing session, which started on March 20 with Governor SC Jamir’s address was scheduled to end on May 5.

The first phase of the session was adjourned on March 31 with the passing of Rs 16,500 crore vote-on-account for the first month of 2018-19 Financial Year (FY). Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera presented the annual Budget of Rs 1,20,028 crore for 2018-19 financial year on March 23.

Appropriation bill of the full budget was passed on April 30.
