Paradip/Balasore: A bullet-ridden body of a trawler driver was found in deep sea near Gahiramatha area in Kendrapara district today. The coast guard personnel recovered the body and rushed to Paradip port hospital for post mortem.
The deceased identified as Mayadhar Mallick is a resident of Naranpur under Simulia police station in Balasore district. His family members and Trawler association of Balaramgadi alleged that the coast guard personnel shot him dead in the deep sea.
He had ventured into the deep sea from Balaramgadi area for fishing. As fellow fishermen said that a bullet suddenly hit his thigh, which came from a coastguard boat, said Balaramgadi Trawler Association president Balaram Das, who along with other members of the association rushed to Paradip to take stock of the situation.
With same allegation, deceased’s brother said that they were not even allowed to see the body in the hospital. However, no complaint has been made yet with police in this matter.
On the other hand, Indian Coast Guard clarified that Jawans sighted a suspicious vessel fleeing off Gahirmatha coast. “The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship tried to stop the boat. ICG ship had to fire warning shots in air & across bows to stop vessel. After stopping the boat, one person was found injured and he was brought to harbour by ICG ship and shifted to Paradip port hospital where he was declared dead. A board of enquiry has been ordered into the incident, aded Indian Coast Guard in a statement
