Case registered against BJD MLA Debashish Samantray for shoving martyr’s kin

Cuttack: Shoving relative of martyr Manoj Behera has finally cost BJD MLA Debashish Samantray dear after police registered a case in this connection following complaint lodged by women wing of Congress party.

The case was registered at Badambadi police station in Cuttack on charges of manhandling and abusing. But, the case will be transferred to Niali police station for investigation as the incident took place in Niali jurisdiction, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said.

BJP also filed complaint at Capital police station, seeking immediate arrest of the lawmaker. The party also lambasted BJD chief and chief minister Naveen Patnaik for remaining silent on the issue.

The BJD, on the other hand, said that matter should not be politicised as he tendered apology to the family of the jawan.

A video that went viral on social media showed that Samantray pushed and manhandled the uncle of martyr Manoj Behera when the mortal remains was given last respects by the relatives, villagers, leaders at Ratanpur near Nilai in Cuttack district, the native of the martyr jawan.

The matter snowballed into a major controversy, after a Pakistani TV channel aired the video. Later, Samantray apologized over the matter citing that he was unaware about the martyr’s relative.
