Berhampur: Police today registered three separate cases against 500 people of five villages in Digapahandi area of Ganjam district for allegedly attacking police officials yesterday.
Three police officials including IIC of Patapur police station were injured critically after locals pelted stones and attacked them with stick and other weapons on Tuesday.
According to reports, a truck driver of Gobindapur had been thrashed by two youths of Taptapani on Monday night.
Protesting the incident, locals were staging a road blockade near Gobindapur on Tuesday by placing trees. Vehicular movement was disrupted.
On being informed, police reached the spot to pacify the locals and clear the road. However, the agitators pelted stones at the cops leaving three of them injured seriously.
Tension still prevailed in Gobindapur village. One platoon of police has been deployed in the area. Action will be taken against the attackers after normalcy returned, police said.
