Centre ready to revive OTM, says Smriti Irani

Bhubaneswar: Hitting out at CM Naveen Patnaik for not showing interest to revive Odisha Textile Mills (OTM), Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani today said that Centre is ready cooperate with the State government for revival of textile industry.

While addressing State executive meet of BJP here, Irani said “”I was told that that Odisha Textile Mill has remained shut for several years and Naveen Babu is incapable of reviving it for development of State in field of textile. I assured that we would cooperate with the State government fully if it shows interest for the revival of textile industry,” she added.

Most of the women are working in Tirupur textile industry in absence of adequate opportunity in home State. If textile industries develop in State, the women would get an opportunity to utilize their skill here and earn for their family there joining the development process of Odisha. But, the matter of sorrow is that Naveen Babu is unable to grow the textile industry.

Targeting the State over ‘collapsed’ law and order situation, the Union Minister said being a state subject, Odisha government has failed to maintain law and order. Cases of women exploitation and harassment have become regular phenomenon. Naveen Babu is not only incapable of doing development but also he has failed to provide security to women, Irani alleged.

She also lambasted the CM for rejecting Ayushman Bharat Yojana for the sake of poor patients. “When we are getting news of poor patients being admitted to hospitals from road every day, it is a matter of question among poor that why Naveeb Babu rejected the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. He did it deliberately because he is taking the scheme politically,” she maintained.

Confident of grabbing power in Odisha in 2019, the Textile Minister asserted “We will achieve our goal of 120+ in Odisha. Our mission of 120+ is not only to grab power, but to ensure security to women, nutritious food to malnourished children, justice to farmer and job to unemployed youths,” she pointed out.

She also did not spare the State government on its decision over fuel prices. Narendra Modi-led Central government gave relief to the people of the country by slashing prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50, but Naveen Babu has never taken interest to reduce VAT to give breather to commom people, she said.
