Chilika boat tragedy: 6 bodies fished out; CM announces Rs 4L aid for kin of dead

Bhubaneswar: The rescue operations in Chilika boat capsize concluded with recovery of all six bodies from the water body today.

The fire brigade and ODRAF personnel today fished out four other bodies including one of a baby boy and two girls. Yesterday two bodies were recovered.

As many as 18 passengers were there on the boat. The unfortunate incident took place when boat was bringing the passengers to Balugaon from Kalijai temple after Raja celebrations. The temple is located on an island on the lagoon.

Boat lost its balance in the strong winds at around 5.30 pm and capsized. 12 passengers were rescued yesterday and were rushed to the Balugaon CHC. Two of them have been shifted to Bhubaneswar after their condition deteriorated.

All the passengers were from Bhubaneswar and Nayagrh.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over the death six persons in the unfortunate incident. He announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia each for the family of the deceased and free treatment for those injured.
