CM condoles death of Salipur rape victim in Assembly, announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia

Bhubaneswar: Expressing deep condolences over the death of minor rape survivor of Salipur, CM Naveen Patnaik today announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family of the victim and assured stringent action against the accused.

During the question hour in Assembly, the Chief Minister said the minor girl breathed her last despite every possible efforts made by the doctors’ team. He informed the House that the accused has been arrested 24 hours after the crime.

The case has been tagged as ‘red flag’, police sources said.

The minor girl who was allegedly raped and assaulted in Jagannathpur of Salipur on April 21, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The girl was on ventilator support as her condition was critical. A team of 13 doctors of different departments were engaged in the treatment of the child who was admitted to the ICU of Paediatric department.

On April 21, the girl was missing after she went to a shop near Jagannathpur Nodal Upper Primary school to purchase chocolates. The family searched her everywhere but did not find her. Later they found the girl lying in an unconscious condition at a school veranda.

Initially, she was rushed to Salipur Community Health Centre and later shifted to SCB Medical and College after her condition deteriorated.

Police arrested the accused identified as Md. Mustafa in connection with the case.
