Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday called for the responsible role of citizens to work together to protect and preserve the big cats.
On the occasion of World Wildlife Day the CM took to twitter and asked the citizens of the country as well as the State to take responsibility and work together to ensure their safety.
“The future of precious wildlife is in our hands,” tweeted Patnaik.
“On #WorldWildlifeDay dedicated to the #BigCats, I restate sincere efforts to protect & preserve the majestic predators & their natural habitats; call for responsible role of citizens to work together & ensure we have more of them,” added the CM.
Union Petroleum Minister and senior State BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan also took to twitter and asked the people on this World Wildlife Day to pledge to safeguard the wildlife and their natural habitats to ensure a healthy and balanced ecosystem.
“The continued existence of wildlife, wilderness, flora & fauna is important for a thriving ecosystem, “tweeted Pradhan.
“This #WorldWildlifeDay, let us all pledge to safeguard the wildlife & our natural habitats to ensure a healthy & balanced ecosystem,” added the Union Minister.
Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik also sculpted a sand art on Puri sea beach to mark the day.
Patnaik created a beautiful sand model showcasing the green environment and natural habitat of a forest with different types of animal, including tiger, lion, beer, elephant etc living in it.
The sand art carried the message ‘World Wildlife Day. Save Us’.
Notably, World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on March 3 since the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on December 20, 2013, to raise awareness on world’s plant and animal species.
The theme of World Wildlife Day 2018 is “Big Cats – Predators Under Threat.”
