Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today alleged that Odisha government has planned to halt the coastal highway project.
Reacting to the Odisha government’s disagree to the NHAI’s proposal to construct highway on existing Puri-Satapada road, Pradhan said there is no disagreement if a road is constructed adjacent to the coast. But State government should ensure land for the project first. Then the NHAI would start work, he added.
But, there is no need of land for the proposed signature bridges over Chilika lake, he added.
The State government reiterated its version in 2018 what it has said in 2015-16 and again the government raised the same issue in 2019, Pradhan maintained.
He said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik lacks will power to expedite the project. The works department secretary Nalini Kant Pradhan is no more a government employee but has inclined towards politics as his picture is appearing in BJD posters.
Responding to Pradhan’s statement, BJD general secretary Sanjay Das Burma said the Union Minister is commenting without examining the facts. An existing road on Puri-Satapada stretch is proposed to be widened in the name of highway, Das Burma said.
