Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered a judicial probe into the missing keys of Jagannath Temple’s treasury (Ratna Bhandar).
A retired judge of the High Court will probe the matter and submit report to the State Government within three months.
Earlier this morning, Law Minister Pratap Jena met the CM at the State Secretariat and briefed him on the issue.
The 12th century shrine falls under the administrative control of the Law Department.
On Sunday the BJP and different outfits demanded a clarification from Jena on the issue. Different outfits held a demonstration in front of the Singhdwara (Lion’s gate) of the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The outfits alleged that the loss of the key and the attempt to suppress the facts had hurt the sentiments of the crores of devotees of Lord Jagannath.
On April 4, according to the direction of the Orissa High Court, an expert team had entered Ratna Bhandar but were not able to enter the inner chamber, as they could not find the key at the last moment. They had inspected the inner chamber from outside.
However, the matter had come to light after Puri king and Jagannath Temple Managing Committee chairman Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb had expressed his surprise over the issue.
