Puri: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s stocktaking meeting for the July 14 annual Rath Yatra in Puri will be held on Thursday. Earlier, the meeting was scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed to July 6.
The postponement came a day after a section of servitors announced to boycott the Chief Minister’s meeting. The servitors of the 12th century shrine are protesting against the Puri district Collector’s alleged fake charges of misconduct by priests to President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife Savita in the temple on March 2018.
Patnaik will also review the ongoing road works, drinking water facilities, drainage and law and order for Rath Yatra. Ministers of various departments, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) will also attend the meeting.
Last week, a controversy erupted after the minutes of a meeting of the Temple Managing Committee, held on March 20, quoted Puri district Collector Aravinda Agarwal and former Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Pradeep Kumar Jena as saying that some servitors had blocked the path of the President in the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine and pushed and nudged the First Lady of India.
