Bhubaneswar: As per his earlier announcement, Congress MLA from Koraput Krushna Chandra Sagaria today stepped down as the member of Odisha Legislative Assembly.
He tendered his resignation to Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat, owning moral responsibility for failure to ensure justice to Kunduli gang-rape victim.
“On October 30, I had announced my decision to resign as the representative of Koraput assembly constituency. As I failed to provide her justice, my conscience drove me to quit the post. I submitted my handwritten letter of resignation which was accepted by the Speaker,” Sagaria told newsmen.
However, he denied media speculation to switch over to any other party.”I am a member of the Congress party and will remain so in future. I resigned today, but I will continue to fight for the reason that forced me to take such step,” he added and clarified that no leaders of his party had an interaction with him over his decision.
Speculation was rife that the dissent leader of Congress party, Sagaria may switch over to any other party as he was displeased with the party decision to remove him from the post of chairman of the Scheduled Caste Cell of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). Though he was appointed as a general secretary of the OPCC after his removal from the earlier post, Sagaria had refused to accept the new post.
Sagaria had been in the headlines for last few days for his on-going feud with Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
