Bhubaneswar: After being appointed as the PCC president, Niranjan Patnaik has today met the legislature party, students unit and women Congress at Congress Bhawan and chalked out the strategy to bring back the past glory of the grand old party in State.
After a marathon meeting with party cadres, Patnaik held a press meet and reiterated his slogan ‘Congress Uthiba, Odisha Hasiba (Congress will rise, Odisha will smile).
“The BJP and BJD has cashed in on the weakness of the Congress. We have to toil hard to regain the strength. We have to work collectively at grassroots level to win people’s trust,” he said.
“Allocation of tickets will not occur in a hasty manner. We will select candidates much before the election. Those who have mass contact with common people will be given priorities. Mostly, the youths and women will be given emphasis during election in 2019,” he added.
Criticising BJP and BJD over special category State status and Mahanadi issues, the PCC president said both the parties are doing petty politics. They don’t have that interest to fight for the soil and its people.
Congress will soon sensitise people about the inefficiency of BJP and BJD.
“Educated youths of the State are migrating to outside in search of job. Dalits are exploited. Women are feeling unsafe. Price of essential commodities and petrol are increasing at an alarming rate. Neither BJP in Centre nor BJD in State have taken any concrete measures to address these issues,” Patnaik who was appointed the PCC chief for the second time said.
Patnaik and his entire team returned from New Delhi to a rousing welcome yesterday. All the leaders today visited Puri Jagannath temple and offered puja.
