Cuttack: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (Rural) Court here on Tuesday allowed the Commissionerate Police to take arrested Ranjita Biswal, corporator of ward number 7 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Sushant Dhalsamant, the elder of the gangster siblings, on three-day remand in connection with the firing of a contractor Bijay Pal on February 23.
Notably, 28-year-old Ranjita was arrested on March 7 for her alleged links with gangster brothers Sushant and Sushil Dhalsamant.
According to police, Ranjita played a significant role in execution of the crime and had supplied firearms to the miscreant Mrutyunjay Nayak, who had attacked Pal on February 23 at the behest of Sushant. Pal had escaped unhurt in the attack and lodged a police complaint in the matter at Sadar police station.
Acting on the complaint, police had arrested Nayak on March 4 and two imported pistols and 29 rounds of live ammunition were seized from his possession. During Nayak’s interrogation police got clue about Ranjita’s involvement in the case.
Police said Ranjita was in regular contact with the gangster brothers, since their arrest in January 2016.
On the other hand, Nayak, had come in contact with Sushant in Jharpara jail. Police said Sushant had helped Nayak in getting bail with a condition that he would execute his plan and eliminate his targets.
Police had also arrested one Sarat Behera who acted as delivery boy and had transported the firearms from Ranjita to Nayak.
