Crime control: 1,150 absconders held in 21 days in Odisha

Cuttack: A total of 1,150 absconders involved in different crimes were arrested in last three weeks between February 15 and March 8 in the State.

This was revealed during a review meeting of crime control policing chaired by DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma.

It was also revealed in the meeting that a total of 7,746 pending cognizable cases have been closed while as many as 6,119 NBWs (non-bailable warrants) were executed and 1,178 cases under Section 110 CRPC have been initiated.

At least 15 proposals under National Security Act (NSA) have been initiated and 1,031 dossiers opened during this period.

The DGP analysed the special drive for controlling crime in the State with the SPs and DCPs of all the districts through videoconferencing.

The special drive for controlling crime includes the targets of closing the old cases, working of NBW, arresting criminals as per CRPC 110 and arresting hardcore criminal as per National Security Act, 1980.

As per the report, this special police drive will be in force for next one week in the rural areas of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Balasore, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Berhampur, Kalahandi and Keonjhar districts.
