Cuttack bus mishap: Death toll rises to 12; PM Modi expresses grief; Dharmendra visits injured at hospital

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed deep grief over loss of life in the tragic bus accident that took place in Cuttack yesterday and wished early recovery of those who were injured in the mishap.

It a tweet, his office PMO stated that “Condolences to those who lost their loved ones due to the bus accident in Cuttack, Odisha. May the injured recover at the earliest: PM @narendramodi.”

Similarly, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan rushed to the hospital and met the injured and family members of the victims. He also enquired about the condition of the injured.

Pradhan also prayed to Lord Jagannath to give enough strength to the family members of the victim to face such situation.

The bus named Jagannath express with around 54 passengers on board felled 30 ft off the Mahanadi bridge after hitting a buffalo. The accident occurred after the bus hit a buffalo on the bridge, following which it veered off and plunged off the bridge. The animal also died in the accident and its body has been recovered. Around 12 passengers were killed while 42 others are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Expressing grief over the incident, CM Naveen Patnaik announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the families of those killed and free treatment for the injured. He also directed the MVI to investigate the reason that led to such tragic mishap.
