Dama announces to float new party

Bhubaneswar: After expulsion from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Paradip MLA and former minister Damodar Rout today announced to float a new political outfit in the name of Biju Patnaik.

Rout took the decision with an aim to provide a political alternative and give a checkmate to Naveen Patnaik-led BJD, which ‘lacks real Biju Patnaik’s followers’.

The process of floating the new outfit will be completed by the end of October, he said. The party will be named after legendary Biju Patnaik, Rout added.

“The BJD was formed based on the ideologies of Biju Babu. But, there is no real Biju lover in the party now. It is engrossed in knee-deep corruption. But the new party will have all the Biju Babu’s followers, “Rout said.

The new outfit would work towards providing political and social representation to all sections of society, he addded.

Rout who has been attacking the BJD and its leader on corruption and mismanagement ever since he was expelled from the party, had earlier hinted at floating a new party.

Yesterday, he held his first political rally in Mahanga after expulsion from BJD where he lambasted local MLA and Minister Pratap Jena. He had also said that several veteran leaders and Biju lovers were in contact with him for a new political entity in State.

The BJD had dismissed him last month on charges of making anti-party statements and hobnobbing with the Congress and BJP leaders in Jagatsinghpur district.

The seven-time MLA was embroiled in controversy since last month after raising three alleged scams much to the embarrassment of the ruling BJD as well as the state government.
