Bhubaneswar: As speculations are flying thick and fast over Damodar Rout joining BJP, the veteran leader is still to open up his future action ahead of election.
Talks started doing rounds that Rout may join BJP after he met some national leaders of the saffron party in Delhi. He was accompanied by Odisha BJP legislature party chief KV Singh Deo to Delhi. However, Rout has neither accepted the report of joining BJP nor denied.
“Offers have come from BJP. Some State and national leaders have proposed me to join the party. Neither I have given my nod nor rejected the proposal. On the other hand, Congress is also seeking my cooperation. But, I have not decided anything on it. The air will be cleared within a day or two after discussed with my supporters”, Rout said.
“All the strong followers of Biju Babu were thrown out from BJD. So I had planned to float a new political outfit with all the followers of Biju Babu. One of the followers of Biju Babu-Baijayant Panda has already joined BJP”, he added.
“I want to extend moral support to the party which can dethrone the corrupt BJD government”, Rout pointed out.
A seven-time MLA and former minister Damodar Raout was expelled from BJD on September 12, 2018 after being accused of making anti-party statements and hobnobbing with the Congress and BJP leaders.
After his expulsion, Rout tried to unify the Biju Babu loyalists to float an anti-BJD front. However, his efforts didn’t yield fruits.
