Day-long fast observed by Odisha BJP protesting Parl disruption

Bhubaneswar: Expressing solidarity with PM Narendra Modi, leaders and workers of State BJP unit today staged a day-long hunger strike in front of the Odisha BJP headquarters in Bhubaneswar to protest disruption of Parliament’s budget session by Opposition Congress and its allies.

Rajya Sabha MP and National Vice President of BJP Om Prakash Mathur, Party’s Odisha in-charge Arun Singh along with State president Basant Panda, Legislature party chief KV Singh Deo and other senior leaders have sat in the day-long fasting.

“Honourable PM always seeks cooperation from Opposition parties for smooth conduct of Parliament transaction. But the Opposition members led by Congress have repeatedly disrupted the House. PM Modi is observing fast today. All the BJP lawmakers across the country are following the suit,” Arun Singh said.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram has led the day-long hunger strike in his constituency Sundergarh.

BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National President Amit Shah started their day-long fast in protest against the washout of Parliament proceedings during both legs of the Budget session.

However, the Prime Minister will stick to his daily schedule and work from his residence. Later in the day, he will travel to Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu to inaugurate the defence exposition.

The BJP’s fast comes days after the Congress held a nationwide fast on April 9 to protest against Dalit atrocities and communal violence.
