Delivery in school: Infant dies at MKCG hospital; headmistress suspended

Kandhamal: In the latest development in connection with the delivery in Daringbadi residential school, the infant born to the Class VIII girl reportedly died at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur while undergoing treatment.

Both the girl and her infant were admitted to MKCG yesterday after delivery.

On the other hand, the headmistress of Greenbadi residential school in Daringbadi Radharani Dalei has been placed under suspension after a class VIII student delivered a baby girl yesterday.

The district administration yesterday suspended three assistant superintendents and dismissed an ANM, two matrons, a warden and a cook cum attendant for dereliction of duty and recommended the State government to initiate action against the headmistress. He also directed the sub-collector to conduct an inquiry and give report in 10 days.

The girl who delivered the baby girl in hostel toilet, was impregnated after being raped by a youth eight months ago while she was in her village on vacation. But, she didn’t utter a single word regarding the ordeal out of fear and public humiliation, the SP added.

The accused youth has been detained while girl and the infant were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. She will be handed over to CWC after discharge, Singh informed.
