Sambalpur: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro today faced lawyers’ ire in Sambalpur over demand for establishment of permanent bench of High Court in western Odisha.
Lawyers who have been demanding high court bench today waived black flags while the minister was on his way to attend the meeting for kharif paddy procurement.
The advocates tried to block his road by showing black flag near MCL gate, alleging State’s apathetic attitude in expediting process for High Court bench.
The meeting of the minister was scheduled to be held at RDC office, but the venue was changed later after the lawyers warned of protest.
The decision to show black flag to the minister was taken at meeting of the lawyers’ core committee yesterday.
“We have sent an ultimatum to the chief minister through Collector that if government doesn’t take any step to send Central team by November 1, we will shut down all government offices from November 8. The agitation will go ahead and the government will only be responsible if any eventuality takes place during the course of protest,” an agitating lawyer said.
Any minister who would visit the western Odisha town will face protest from the lawyers, he added.
