Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was accorded a heroic welcome on Friday by the saffron party leaders after the former reached the cityon Friday after his re-election to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
Pradhan was welcomed by hundreds of BJP party workers along with supporters and many other senior leaders of the party when he reached the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here at around 1.20 pm.
Later, Pradhan was taken to the party State headquarters near Ram Mandir here in a bike rally. Several hoardings and banners were put up to welcome him along the route between the Airport Square and party office. He received equally rousing welcome at the party headquarters.
He also addressed a felicitation programme organised at the party office.
Notably, this was the first visit of Pradhan to Odisha after being re-nominated to Rajya Sabha.
Pradhan is the first Odia from the State to be elected to the upper house twice from outside the home State.
The senior BJP leader was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. He was elected to the Upper House of Parliament from Bihar in 2012. His tenure will end on April 2.
