Eight detained for flying drone to shoot Puri Jagannath Temple

Puri: At least eight persons were detained by Puri police for flying drone cameras over Jagannath Temple here.

The detainees were reportedly using drone cameras for trying to click aerial photographs of the 12th century shrine for a short documentary film. They were operating the drone camera from the roof of nearby Emara Matha.

Singhadwar police seized their camera-fitted drone and deleted photographs of the shrine’s interior complex, sources said.

While camera is off limits to Jagannath Temple, the Puri district administration in 2014 declared airspace around Jagannath Temple as ‘no fly zone’ after a quad-copter had hovered over the temple

On several occasion in the past, a number of foreigners were detained by police for using drone cameras over the temple.
