Elephant herd damages standing crops in Sundergarh

Sundergarh: In search of food, a herd ten elephants including some female and calf sneaked into the human habitation and damaged standing paddy crop in acres of land in Bonai range area of Sundergarh district today.

Around 2 acres of lands were destroyed by the jumbos at Rautarani hills in Bonai. The villagers were scared after the elephants stayed there for for quite some time.

On being informed forest department rushed to the spot and tried to drive the animal away from human settlement.

The herd might have migrated from Jharkahnd, forest officials said. The villagers demanded adequate compensation for the crop loss.
