Bhubaneswar: Activists of BJP Mahila Morcha today scuffled with police after security personnel prevented them to enter Naveen Niwas here today.
The morcha members tried to barge into the CM’s residence as per party’s earlier decision to demand clarification from CM over minister Pradeep Maharathy’s derogatory remark against women.
Hundreds of women activists led by Morcha president Pravati Parida tried to enter the CM’s residence. Woman leaders Lekhasri Samantsinghar, Surama Padhi, Upasana Mohapatra and others also took part in the agitation.
They questioned CM’s silence over such a sensitive issue of women. “The CM is advocating on respect to women. But, why he is silent over a derogatory remark of his minister. The CM’s word and action are totally opposite,” said Upasana Mohapatra.
Echoing similar views, Lekhasri Samantsinghar said the BJD is instigating the criminals to commit crime against women. The women violence is rising in State while it is decreasing in other parts of the country, she added.
“The CM should open his mouth whether he silently supports Maharathy or condemns his remark. We want to ask him,” she added.
Notably, Mahila Morcha has been spearheading agitation against the Agriculture minister for last few days demanding his ouster from council of minister for giving irresponsible statement against women.
The Morcha supporters had earlier also staged an agitation in front of Maharathy’s residence in Bhubaneswar. They had faced off with police while attempting to barge into his residence. Later, they had lodged a complaint against him at Delang police station.
The minister landed in soup over a video purportedly showing him making derogatory remarks against women. The video which has since gone viral quoted the minister as saying that 30,000 women have 60,000 husbands.
