Cuttack: Hundreds of farmers of Narasinghpur block in Cuttack district staged a road blockade on Friday, alleging mismanagement in procurement of paddy at Government mandis (paddy yards).
The farmers said they have kept their paddy, but no miller were purchasing paddy from them at mandis
Protesting against the mismanagement at paddy mandis, the farmers blocked the road near Kokalaba Chhak in Narasinghpur block by placing paddy bags on it, and shouted slogans against the local and State administration.
Due to the blockade, road communication between Cuttack and Narasinghpur was disrupted.
The agitating farmers alleged that they have been waiting for millers to procure paddy at mandis, but no one is buying their paddy.
On Thursday, the state BJP Krushak Morcha attempted to barge into state Secretariat demanding the removal of Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro from the Cabinet for making false promises regarding paddy procurement. They alleged that due to unholy nexuses between the Government officials and millers, the farmers are in distress and selling their paddy at anything between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,200 per quintal.
