First dengue death of the year reported from Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The state today witnessed the first dengu death with a woman dying of the mosquito borne disease in Bhubaneswar.

The woman who was admitted to hospital two days ago today succumbed to the disease. Her sister-in-law is also undergoing treatment at a private hospital, her relatives said.

Health director Braja kishore Brahma said out of 20,000 blood samples 48 tested positive for dengue. Last year 45 samples were tested positive out of 10,000 samples.

Khurdha district emerged as the most dengue prone. Special doctors team has been formed at Capital hospital here to treat the patients at a special ward having eight beds.

Adequate drugs are stored and awareness campaign has been taken to contain the spread of disese, he added.

Similarly, Cuttack city also geared up to contain the disease. A high level meeting chaired by CMC mayor was held yesterday to discuss the measures for he disease.
