First MEMU train starts service in Odisha

Berhampur: The first Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train of Odisha today commenced service between Berhampur and Cuttack.

The specially designed train replaced the Berhampur-Cuttack-Berhampur Fast Passenger. The MEMU train will run as per the schedule of the fast passenger. The new design train departed from Berhampur at 7.30 am and reached Cuttack at 11.30 am. It will run six days a week.

The train will run from Berhampur to Khurda Road at 9.30 pm on every Saturday and will run from Khurda Road to Berhampur at 11.45 pm on Sunday, East Coast Railway sources said.

With 12 compartments, the train has a capacity of 110 passengers. The compartments have ample space for standing passengers and better toilet facilities.

Since the train has engines in the middle and drive cabins at both ends, less time will be consumed in engine reversal. The train will help solve passenger rush.
