Fish imported from AP to be tested to trace formalin content

Bhubaneswar: After Assam banned import and sale of fish, Odisha has decided to examine the imported fish in the laboratory to find out presence of cancer causing chemical content (formalin). The fish mostly imported from Andhra Pradesh will undergo test

Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Pradeep Maharathy has asked the Directorate of Fisheries secretary to conduct an inquiry.

Assam government on Wednesday banned import and sale of fish imported from Andhra Pradesh and other states for a period of 10 days following the presence of formalin content that causes cancer in consumers’ body.

The Collectors and food officials in Assam have been directed to act tough on the violators.
