Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and in a major boost to the BJP in the State, former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Babu Singh on Tuesday joined the saffron party in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a host of national and State-level leaders here.
The youth leader, who quit the ruling BJD on Saturday, joined the BJP at the party headquarters along with hundreds of his supporters. He was the BJD’s Bhubaneswar organisational district working committee president and known as good organiser.
Singh had said that he took the decision to quit the BJD after being sidelined in the party for years.
Senior party leaders and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Baijayant Panda, Basant Panda, KV Singh Deo among others welcomed Singh and his supporters to the party fold.
The joining of Singh in the saffron party will certainly have an impact on the BJD in the State capital in the ensuing elections.
Welcoming Singh and his supporters to the party fold, Union Minister Pradhan said the organisation of the party will certainly be strengthened in Bhubaneswar with the joining of the youth leader and hundreds of his supporters.
