Bhubaneswar: Former IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi on Tuesday joined the BJP in New Delhi ahead of the 2019 general and Assembly elections.
The Bihar-born former bureaucrat joined the saffron party in the presence of party national president Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, party Odisha in-charge Arun Singh, Odisha chief Basanta Panda at Amit Shah’s Government quarters in New Delhi.
The 1994-batch Odisha cadre IAS officer had recently opted for voluntarily retirement scheme (VRS) after completing the five-year tenure on Central deputation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved her application on November 15 within 48 hours after the State Government recommended for the same.
She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for giving her an opportunity to join the saffron party.
She will return to Bhubaneswar on November 28. With her joining speculation are now rife that the saffron party will give her a crucial responsibility in the State with the next general and Assembly elections are a few months away.
She has sacrificed 11 years of IAS service to join politics.
