New Delhi: Former Odia IAS officer and member of Finance Commission Shaktikant Das has been appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
Das, a former Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, will replace Urjit Patel who resigned from the top post of RBI yesterday, citing personal reason.
He was appointed as India’s sherpa at the recent two-day annual G20 meeting held at Buenos Aires.
A former civil servant, Das is also a member of the 15th Finance Commission.
The 63-year-old bureaucrat had also held the post of Economic Affairs Secretary of India, Revenue Secretary of India, Fertilizers Secretary of India.
His appointed was necessitated following the resignation of Urjit Patel as RBI Governor yesterday.
