Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda joins BJP in Delhi

New Delhi: Setting aside all speculations and presumptions, former Lok Sabha member Baijayant Jay Panda finally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of general secretary Arun Singh, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, Odisha unit president Basant Panda and senior leader KV Singhdeo at BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

Just after joining, he met party president Amit Shah who welcomed him to the BJP.

“I admire Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah’s leadership,” Panda told reporters after he was garlanded to welcome him into the party.

“It is no secret that I had admired Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s leadership and his direction in which he is taking the country and also national President of BJP Amit Shah ji’s leadership that has made this party not just largest in the country but the largest in most effective political party” he said while addressing reporters”, Pe added.

“Prime Minister Modi has demonstrated that he is capable of taking extremely tough decisions which are in the long-term interest of the country” he further pointed out.

After joining the national party, Panda thank all the leaders who were present here and promised to work for the betterment of Odisha and India under the leadership of Modi and Shah.

“I would like to thank my friends especially Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister Jual Oram, President of Odisha BJP Basant Panda and former president of State KV Singdeo, General secretary Arun Singh. I look forward to engaging with in coming days much more. On my efforts, I look forward to do my best for Odisha and India under the leadership of Narendra Modi Ji and Amit Shah ji in BJP”, Panda maintained.

Just before his joining, he tweeted “Nine months of introspection & widespread consultations w/colleagues & public. Grateful for support recd from all over. On auspicious #MahaShivratri I’ve decided to join @BJP4India & work under the leadership of @narendramodi Ji to serve Odisha & India to the best of my ability”.

In a tweet, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that Panda’s joining with further strengthen the BJP in Odisha. “I welcome my friend, Shri Baijayant Jay Panda @PandaJay into the @BJP4India family. His popularity and connect with the Odia youth will further strengthen the surge of @BJP4Odisha in Odisha”, he tweeted.

The 55-year-old leader, who won from Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 on BJD ticket, was first suspended in January last year over charges of anti party activities. He subsequently resigned from the party as well as Lok Sabha in May and June last year after a bitter falling out with his party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Panda had been a parliamentarian of the BJD since 2000 and had been among the party’s most prominent leaders from Odisha.
