Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved establishment of Bolangir medical college and Balasore medical college in Odisha.
In a letter to Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said two new Medical Colleges having 100 seats each have been approved. These will come under ‘Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing District/Referral Hospitals.’
Besides, the Ministry has also approved the conditional permission issued to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital in Baripada for 2017-18 and also approved the renewal permission for admission of 2nd batch to the 100 MBBS seats at the college for the academic year 2018-19, added Nadda.
He further informed that necessary permission letters will be issued by the Ministry separately.
In April, Pradhan had written to Nadda urging him to take urgent measures to make Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College at Baripada functional. He urged the Health Minister to direct the concerned officials of the Medical Council of India (MCI) for immediate visit to the medical college to conduct inspection so that the medical college can be made functional.
