Healthcare services hit due to strike by private hospitals in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Healthcare services have been affected today following 24-hour agitation being observed by the All Odisha Private Medical Establishment Forum (AOPMEF) demanding amendment in Odisha Clinical Establishments Act.

Around 2000 private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres and patho labs have remained closed pressing for their demands. The forum members organised bike rallies in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Bhadrak, carrying banners and placards.

The private hospitals shut their outdoor services and stopped admitting new patients. However, treatment of existing patients has not been affected.

The AOPMEF alleged that registration and renewal of licenses have become difficult for private health care facility providers under the Odisha Clinical Establishments Act.

Meanwhile, State Health Department has cancelled the leaves of all doctors and employees to ensure that the emergency services are not hampered. Doctors have been appointed in the casualty, trauma care and women & maternal care departments.
